Winning is Simple when you are big

PHILIPSBURG--Cay Hill Celtics started strong, taking a 10-6 first quarter lead in the Soualiga Youth Basketball Association competition at L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium yesterday. The larger athletes from Team Simple bounced back to take a 19-17 half time lead and cruised to victory. Simple led 39-30 at the end of the third and won 53-37.

"Simple has been together for several years," said organizer Miguel Richardson. "Most of the boys will turn 16 this year. They are a strong team."

The Soualiga Youth Basketball Association competition features three divisions of play, including Minis 12 years and under, Cadets 13 to 15 years and Juniors 19 years and under.

In the Mini Division, which plays two 10-minute periods, Robbie's Stars dominated the newly formed Over the Bank Rug Rats. Stars won 40-2. Shamika Arrindell scored the only points for the Rug Rats. She is one of three girls on the team.

In the Junior Division game, RCM from Agrement squeezed past Dutch Quarter Rebels. RCM took a first quarter 12-9 lead, but were down 33-27 at the break. Rebels led 45-43 at the end of the third, but RCM came back to win 64-61.

Action continues at 4:30pm this afternoon in the Cadet Division as No Limits tip off against Rug Rats and in the Juniors Cross Over Boys face Belvedere Bulls.

In other basketball news, there will be an information session for athletes wishing to try out for the St. Maarten Kingdom Games Team at the Sports Auditorium on Friday from 5:30 to 6:30pm.

To try out for the team that will represent St. Maarten, athletes must be between 15 to 17 years old and have Dutch Rights. Please, bring a copy of your passport to the meeting.
